Bring the Zoo to You with Augmented Reality
If you’re feeling a little cabin fever while sheltering in place during the COVID-19 pandemic, bring some virtual wildlife into your home through Augmented Reality (AR) on your smartphone. You don’t need to download any apps or create an account—simply do a Google search for an animal and let the fun begin!
1. Open the internet app on your smart phone (Internet, Safari, Chrome, or Firefox)
2. Go to Google.com
3. Search for any animal
4. Scroll down to the picture of the animal, and tap “View in 3d”
5. Follow the instructions on your screen, which may tell you to turn your phone in different directions
Once the animal appears on your screen, touch and hold it with one finger and move it
around your screen. Change the size of the animal by pinching your fingers together, placing them on the animal, then slowly pulling your fingers apart.
Try posing the animal in a silly spot, or next to a family member or pet. Once you have your animal posed, take a photo by tapping the white dot on the bottom of the screen. If you don’t see the white dot, tap lightly on the animal and the dot and a menu will appear. You can tap the arrow on the top of the screen to send a picture to a friend via text or email.
