Flash Fiction Contest

Create a short piece of fiction based on a relationship of any kind. Submissions are limited to 500 words. One prize winner will be selected to receive a free ticket to the Nicholas Spark author event on February 7, 2017. In addition, the selected entry will be published in the January 2017 edition of 805 Lit + Art Journal. As with last year’s contest, a panel of library professionals and 805 editors will blindly select the winning entry based upon creativity, readability, and emotional resonance. How to Enter
PLEASE NOTE: Do not use the 805 submissions page.

Entrants must own a valid Manatee County Public Library card.

Only one entry may be submitted per person.

Entries are limited to 500 words, must be in English, and cannot be previously published.

Manatee County Government employees and their families are ineligible to enter.

Entrants must be 16 or over.

Submissions may be researched for plagiaristic content.

Judges reserve the right to disqualify entries that contain profanity or offensive content.

The Library and Foundation reserve the right to use submitted entries in promotional and literary compilations without compensation.

Deadline for entry is Friday, December 2nd, 2016. Mailed entries must be postmarked by that date.

Selections will be announced on Friday, December 16th, 2016. One winner will receive one ticket to the author event on Tuesday, February 7th, 2017.

Entries may be submitted in person at any library facility, by email or by regular mail.

Entries submitted in person or sent by regular mail should include on a single sheet of paper the submitted entry followed by the entrant’s name, address, phone number, library card barcode number, and email address if applicable.Please ensure entry is legible if written by hand.

Email entries should be in the body of the message, not in an attachment. Please use a readable font such as Arial 12. Please include entrant name, address, phone number, library card barcode number, and email address.

No purchase is necessary to enter this contest. Agreement to these Terms and Conditions is personal to entrant and may not be assigned. These Terms and Conditions constitute the entire agreement between Manatee County Library and entrant pertaining to participation in Flash Fiction contest. No changes to Terms and Conditions shall be made except by a revised posting on this page and all participants agree to be bound by such changes without actual notice. Submission of an entry in the contest signifies entrant agrees to all rules, terms and conditions set forth above.
