家族 (Kazoku)

Anthony Alegrete

I weave stories like my grandmother sewed happi coats
my tongue like her stitching needles
look at the beauty we can create
look at how culture seeps from her to me
generations later
how we can pay homage from within ourselves
isn’t each stitch each word
a prayer
a celebration
of what we’ve come from
of who we are
of where we are
of how far the paper crane flies.

Anthony Alegrete is an Asian American poet and writer currently located in Orange, California where he is pursuing his MFA in Creative Writing at Chapman University. He has also performed spoken word throughout the San Jose area. This is his debut poetry publication.
