Uncle Micheal

Eryl Diamond-Odell

“Where’s Uncle Micheal?”

I ask my mom

My eyes dripped with excitement.

“He’ll be here soon”

My mother replies.

How far is soon?

I couldn’t wait to play with him.

To give him a big old bear hug.

After my birthday, I walk into the room.

Sorrow fills the air.

I feel pressure on my chest as I ask

“Where’s Uncle Micheal?”

Tears pouring from my family’s eyes like the plague.

“He’s not here anymore”

I drop ever so slowly

As the excitement that once dripped from my eyes

Turned into this plague of misery.
